NYC Makes Bold Move To Suspend Hotel Tax For Summer
While we don't think the room tax will really make a big difference in who is deciding to visit New York City this summer or not, apparently Mayor De Blasio does as he's suspended the city hotel room tax for June, July, and August. Read more in Frequent Business Traveler here.
The Year Of The Summer Vacation Redo
Vacation rental management platform Vacasa conducted a survey about summer vacation travel trends. One of their big findings is that 37% of travelers are making up for plans that were cancelled last summer by visiting the same destination they originally intended to visit, or one nearby. Air France-KLM Venture Into Sustainable Fuels
Air France-KLM recently sent into the air what it calls its first long-haul flight with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The plane is said to be using petroleum mixed with a synthetic jet fuel derived from waste cooking oils. The Air France jet is flying from Paris to Montreal, with a fuel mixture including 16% of sustainable fuel. Read more in Travel Weekly here.
Mini Hotel Toiletries Banned In The Big Apple
We suspected that with COVID, the move to refillable hotel room shampoo, conditioner, and body soap might be stopped. That's not the case. After a two-year Senate battle, hotels in New York will legally have to ditch all single use plastic toiletries by 2024. Read more in EuroNews here.
