AAA Predicting Massive Spike In Memorial Day Travel
As we get ready to head into the Memorial Day Weekend, AAA is predicting a massive spike in holiday travel. As more and more people become vaccinated, AAA Travel revealed an estimated 37 million travelers would hit the road for vacations at least 50 miles or more from home during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Data from AAA Travel found the more than 37 million people traveling for the holiday period — May 27 through May 31 — is an increase of 60% over last year when only 23 million traveled during the coronavirus pandemic — the lowest on record. How The Travel + Leisure Brand Is Changing
Travel + Leisure Magazine's name was purchased by vacation club and exchange company Wyndham, with the Travel + Leisure name to replace Wyndham Destinations. Immediate plans call for booktandl.com, a platform on which consumers can plan and book a trip, and a summer launch of a Travel + Leisure subscription travel club, offering benefits and perks when traveling or at home for a monthly fee of $10. They say the magazine will publish with complete editorial independence, but it remains to be seen if Wyndham-owned properties will receive the lion's share of the coverage if the ultimate goal is to drive bookings to its own properties. Booking.com's Sustainable Travel Report shows 72% of travelers want companies to offer more sustainable product choices and 70% said they were likely to choose accommodations that have implemented some sustainability practices. These days sustainability involves a lot more than a card asking guests to reuse towels and sheets or doing away with plastic straws.
