Bidding Wars For Hotels In The Hamptons
While Long Island, New York's "The Hamptons" has always been a coveted summer spot, it appears things have really gotten out of hand. Perhaps travelers who would normally head overseas in summer have decided to play it safe and just vacation closer to home. No matter what the reason, they are throwing money at hoteliers to secure sold out rooms — and prompting hotel managers to offer perks and comps to booked guests to postpone their stay to a later date. Summer travel is always fraught with airport delays due to summer storms and crowded everything, but this year these issues are compounded by heavier than normal crowds at domestic airports AND the fact that most travel related companies have not been able to bring on enough staff — or rental cars apparently — to handle the demand.
