We're big fans of new words as they relate to the travel industry and we've got a good ones few for you. When is the last time you — or anyone you know — actually used a hotel Business Center? Gramping, Holiday Millionaires, And Crafted Contentment Trend For 2022

ACCOR just released its Northern Europe Travel Trends Report and it has some interesting findings for how travel will evolve this year. The new term "Gramping" — grandparents taking the kids on holiday without the parents — is trending. They also look at "Holiday Millionaires" and "Crafted Contentment as they identify how people are traveling differently. Download the report here.

Hotel Business Centers Are On The Way Out

When was the last time you used a business center in a hotel? Even boarding passes are digital these days so who needs them? And with working from hotel more popular then ever, the reality is that no one wants or needs a business center anymore and hotels are beginning to do away with them. Read more in Skift here.

Popular Destinations Are Adding Tourist Taxes

If you want to go to popular destinations around the globe, it's going to cost you more. While none of it will break the bank, many countries have started implementing tourist taxes to help with infrastructure, social services, and more. Venice is one such place which will start charging a tourist tax on June 1st. The fee is between three and 10 euros depending on how crowded the city is at the time. Read more in TravelPulse here.

Booking Windows Have Changed Significantly

Travel since the pandemic has changed in myriad ways, not the least of which is the incredible shortening of booking windows. ACCOR reported that 50% of the group’s bookings occurred less than three days before stay in the first half of 2021, and a company which designs and furnishes short-term rentals in Greece found that in 2020 guests globally who extended their stay beyond the original booking duration doubled to 60%.
