Pandemic Gives Rise To Thrill-Seeking Behavior
While travelers were rushing to just get outside once lockdown was lifted, now it seems they are anxious to get out of their comfort zone. The pandemic has given rise to thrill-seeking behaviors and adventure travel is growing in popularity. Alaska Airlines Eliminates All Plastic Water Bottles On Flights
In its bid to be more sustainable, Alaska Airlines is eliminating all plastic water bottles and cups on flights, instead opting for water boxes and recyclable paper cups. Combined, the switches will represent about 1.8 million pounds of single-use plastics eliminated from flights over the next year, which the airline said is equivalent to the weight of 18 Boeing 737s. Mega Cruise Ships Are Getting Shut Out Of Destinations
Sure cruise lines may think "bigger is better" and work to create even larger floating cities with more cabins than ever before, but some of the destinations they want to call on don't necessarily agree with that philosophy. In late September, French Polynesia's government announced that cruise ships with a capacity greater than 3,500 passengers will be banned from making port calls in the country as of January 1, 2022. It's an effort to ban over tourism and the negative ecological impacts. The Cayman Islands and Venice, Italy are on board with this move too. Read more in Conde Nast Traveler here.
