We take a look at how hotels are repurposing spaces, airlines are adopting alternative fuel sources, and one company thinks paying Google AdWords is NOT the way of the future. Hotels Are Repurposing Spaces As A Result of Pandemic

Hotels are getting quite adept at repurposing their spaces in response to low occupancies during the pandemic. They have offered their empty rooms as housing for the homeless and temporary offices for executives; they’ve even turned their conference rooms into classrooms for remote learning. But perhaps the biggest win for them is in ghost kitchens — renting out their kitchens to delivery only restaurants selling on DoorDash or UberEats or for startup businesses who need commercial kitchen space. Electric And Solar-Powered Planes Are On The Horizon

Finnair has just announced it is involved in trials for powering short-haul flights by electric and solar power — particularly flights with a range of one to one-and-a-half hours. The company has set clear targets to reduce its carbon footprint by half by the end of 2025 and reach carbon neutrality by 2045. Read more in Breaking Travel News here.

How One French Adventure Travel Start-Up Is Marketing Itself Differently

Explora Project is a French startup focused on small group, environmentally sustainable adventure tourism. The CEO has an interesting take on marketing: “We don’t fight for keywords or bid in ad auctions to rank first for searches on ‘adventure travel,'” said Stanislas Gruau. “Google is for the old generation. Who is typing ‘adventure travel’ on Google to find something cool? Seriously: no one.” Read more in Skift here.

Amtrak Is Paying Employees To Get Vaccinated

While the details are still murky as to when public transportation workers will be eligible to get the COVID vaccine, Amtrak has announced it is paying employees to get vaccinated in a move to speed protection of its workforce. Amtrak is giving a bonus, the equivalent of two hours of pay, to those who get vaccinated, the company said. The company is also offering paid time off for workers to get vaccinated during work hours and will excuse absences due to any side effects. Read more in The Washington Post here.
